The Parti Keadilan Rakyat leadership issue in Sabah appears to be far from over even after the appointment of a local as its new state liaison chief.
The majority of divisional and branch leaders are said to be unhappy with the appointment of Thamrin Zaini, the state PKR secretary, as the party's state chief, replacing vice-president Azmin Ali.
The disgruntled local PKR leaders claimed that Thamrin's appointment was made by the party's supreme council without considering their views.
"They (local PKR leaders) are unhappy with the decision (Thamrin's appointment) because it does not reflect the wishes of the majority," said PKR vice-president Datuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan.
Jeffrey, who was among the local leaders widely expected to replace Azmin as state PKR chief, said the decision was tantamount to ignoring and not respecting the wishes of the majority.
Azmin had to relinquish his position as Sabah PKR chief following dissatisfaction among local leaders who wanted a person from Sabah to hold the post.
"The concept of democracy which we are supposed to practise is not being respected," Jeffrey said.
Asked if his disappointment over the matter would prompt him to leave PKR and rejoin Parti Bersatu Sabah, led by his elder brother Datuk Seri Joseph Pairin Kitingan, Jeffrey said such an idea had not crossed his mind.
